HomeCrew offers a comprehensive array of services to treat, beautify and maintain your lawn. For lawn maintenance, these following services are included.

Spring and fall clean ups

In the spring we remove all leaves and debris and vacuum them away, keeping your property clean.

In the fall, we remove all leaves and debris and vacuum them away. We offer either a one-time or weekly fall leaf clean up (charged by the hour). By removing the leaves weekly, it lets the grass breathe and gives your property a clean appearance.

Aeration

Aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn to improve soil aeration. Aeration before an application of fertilizer will allow nutrients easier access to root systems.

Thatching / Power-raking

Power-raking removes dead tangled grass and moss from your lawn, allows air and moisture access to the ground and the lawn root zone. It also decreases watering requirements as well as increases disease resistance.

Power-raking can be done in the spring or fall. When power raking to remove winter debris, it is recommended to do it before the lawn starts growing to avoid setting the lawn back during the critical spring time growth. If power-raking is being combined with over-seeding, we recommend doing it in early spring to allow the new seedlings plenty of time to get established before the summer drought and heat.

Over-seeding and topdressing

Over-seeding compensates for that natural slow down of the turf’s reproduction. There are two major benefits to over-seeding every three or four years. First, you insure your lawn stays thick and dense, or if it has thinned, you will make it thick again. Thick grass has few if any weeds if it is mowed over 3 inches tall. The second benefit is disease resistance. The new varieties of seed you sow this year will have better disease resistance than those varieties already in your lawn.

Fertilizer applications

In order for your lawn to look lush and green, it is important to feed it so that it will have a strong root system to withstand heat, cold, drought, mowing, and foot traffic.

Four fertilizer applications throughout the season are necessary to provide the specific nutrients required for the varying stages of growth.

HomeCrew uses high quality, slow release granular fertilizers, applied at the proper time and under the proper conditions. Depending on the condition of your lawn, we will fertilize two to five times per season.

Core Aeration

Aerating is the process of using a mechanical core aerator to pull up a cores of soil from your lawn. These “holes” allow for air, rain, and nutrients to penetrate the soil. It also gives the roots room to grow. The soil cores left on the surface will dissolve over a few weeks. The soil in the cores contains microorganisms that help digest thatch naturally, creating a healthier lawn.

Your soil will have the following benefits:

• Improved air exchange
• Improved water and nutrient intake
• Reduced water runoff and puddling
• Stronger and deeper root system
• Reduced soil compaction

Lime Application

Lawn grasses will not grow well in highly acid soils. Lime is a compound of calcium or calcium and magnesium capable of counteracting the harmful effects of an acid soil on lawn grasses which result in a healthy grass.

Over-Seeding

Over-Seeding can mean the difference between dry, dead grass and a vibrant lawn. Too many homeowners overlook the importance of Over-Seeding. Without new seed to rejuvenate your lawn, your grass will grow old, and thin, causing weeds and disease to ravage your lawn.

The older your grass is, the slower it reproduces itself. Over-Seeding makes your lawn grow thicker and healthier, choking out weeds and diseased grass with new seed. Over-Seeding is an essential part of any effective lawn service. Enjoy a fresh lawn by seeding frequently.

Top Dressing

Lawn top dressing is the process of adding material to the surface of the lawn. This would normally be loam or sandy loam mixes, sand or organic material.

Top dressing has a number of benefits:

• Smoothing the lawn surface
• Helps control thatch
• Improves the soil
• Improves drainage over time with repeated applications
• Helps in renovating or over seeding
• Protects the grass over winter

Grub Control

White grubs can be very destructive and can damage your lawn very quickly. Eliminating grubs also helps prevent damage from animals such as skunks, and raccoons which can ruin a lawn digging for grubs. The symptoms are brown patches, irregular in shape which appear in late spring or early fall. Dead patches roll back easily, like a section of carpet. HomeCrew uses beneficial nematodes, applied at the proper time of the season to help keep grubs under control.

Surface Insect Control

Insects can cause severe problems even in a healthy lawn. This service is provided to eliminate surface feeding insects such as Chinch bugs, Sod Webworms and Billbugs, which can devastate lawns in a matter of weeks . This application is done when insects are actively feeding.

Lawn Rolling

Rolling your lawn is the process of moving a heavy weight across the surface of your lawn to help smooth out uneven areas.

Lawn rolling should only be done under certain circumstances and always followed up by a Core Aeration. Rolling your lawn improperly can do more harm than good. A light lawn rolling is often very useful after the installation of new sod.

Lawn Repair

The first step before lawn repair is to figure out why the decline of the lawn occurred. By determining the cause of your unhealthy lawn, it allows us to recommended a proper solution with long lasting results in mind.

New Sod installation

Sod can be installed spring through fall. We remove the old turf and then prep the area with a generous amount of top soil so that the root system of the new grass will have room to grow. We then install the new sod and if required, we do a light rolling of the sod. When new sod is installed, it is important that watering be done immediately after and also every day for the next four (4) days.
